When I married a Polish beauty, I became a fan of all things Polish (except for public pools in Poland where men wear speedos). I have a special place in my heart for Poland and those who hail from this beautiful nation.
Tonight a headline grabbed my attention—it included a Polish name, Przemek Karnowski. As a 7’1” center, he led the Gonzaga University basketball team to a victory over UCLA. Next is a showdown against Duke to determine who advances to the Final Four.
Suddenly I find myself cheering on Gonzaga to win it all.
I haven’t watched a college basketball game since the 90s. I’ve never filled out a tournament bracket. March Madness slips by unnoticed—until tonight. But it really isn’t about basketball. For me it is about God’s heart for a nation. And the exploits of a young Polish man on the basketball court reveals the longing in my heart to see Poland experience a national revival and spiritual awakening unto Christ Jesus.
By God’s grace, the next time I step foot on the soil of Poland, there’s going to be a deep stirring unleashed in that nation. I’ll prepare the altar—God will ignite the fire from heaven.
Lord, awaken the Polish people unto a deep revelation of the majesty of Christ Jesus. Remove the veil of religiosity that blinds the mind of those who bow to the false altar of Mary. Amen.
